ESTUDIO COMPARATIVO-TEXTUAL SOBRE LA FIGURA DEL COCO: “THE BOOGEYMAN” (S. KING, 1973), “DAMNABLE” (I. EVANS-AMOAH, 2013)
ABSTRACT. This article is centred in the elaboration of a comparative study between two fictional texts based on the “boogeyman” character as a common element which surpasses the barriers of time and space turning into the universal representation of fear. The methodology was based on the Film Transposition Theory developed in 1999 by one of the co-authors of this article. Firstly, a textual-semiotic analysis of the figure of the boogeyman based on the short story: “The Boogeyman” written by S. King and published in 1973 in the Magazine Cavalier has been carried out. The fictional text selected for this analysis is entitled: “El Coco, historia corta” and it is included in the book translated into the Spanish: El umbral de la noche (9ª ed.) Barcelona, Plaza & Janés published in 1992. In a second part, according to the Film Transposition Theory, a detailed film analysis has been included. Moreover a découpage with the most important frames is also annexed to illustrate the study. The short film elected in this case is: “Damnable” produced by Isaac Evans-Amoah in 2013 and it was inspired by the aforementioned short story. This study has been conceived sharing both languages Spanish and English, as the authors understand the urgent need to coexist in a common research framework based in plurilingualism and pluriculturalism. Finally, taking into account the two fictional texts a comparative study has been included and final conclusions have been provided.
RESUME. Este artículo se centra en la elaboración de un estudio comparativo entre dos textos de ficción basados en la figura del “Coco” como un elemento común que supera las barreras del tiempo y del espacio convirtiéndose en la representación universal del miedo. La metodología de trabajo empleada en este estudio se acota en la teoría de la transposición fílmica desarrollada por la coautora de este trabajo. En la primera parte, se lleva a cabo el análisis semiótico-textual de la figura del “Coco” a través del relato breve: “The Boogeyman” escrito por S. King y publicado en 1973. El texto de ficción seleccionado para este análisis en concreto se titula: “El Coco, historia corta” y se incluye en el libro traducido al español: El umbral de la noche (9ª ed.) Barcelona, Plaza & Janés publicado en 1992. En una segunda parte, incluimos el análisis pormenorizado del texto fílmico incluyendo el découpage con los fotogramas más significativos para poder ilustrar el estudio. Se trata, en esta ocasión, de un cortometraje titulado:”Damnable” realizado por Isaac Evans-Amoah en lengua inglesa en el año 2013 e inspirado en el citado relato. Este estudio ha sido concebido compartiendo dos lenguas de trabajo -español e inglés- por entender que se hace necesario, cada vez más, un espacio de investigación y convivencia común basado en el plurilingüismo y el pluriculturalismo. Por último, teniendo en cuenta los dos textos objeto de estudio se ha incluido un análisis comparativo que culmina directamente con las conclusiones finales proporcionadas al cierre de este artículo.
