LE VARIETÀ DEL REALISMO IN HILARY PUTNAM. DAL REALISMO SCIENTIFICO AL REALISMO NATURALE
ABSTRACT. L’articolo delinea lo sviluppo della riflessione di Hillary Putnam sul realismo mostrando la varietà di approcci a questo problema. Innanzitutto ci si concentra sulla fase del realismo scientifico mettendo in luce non solo la difesa dell’impresa della scienza con il no miracles argument, ma anche la difesa delle entità teoriche e del fatto che la conoscenza non si riduce alla sola scienza. In secondo luogo si mostra il passaggio al realismo metafisico basato sulla prospettiva dell’Occhio di Dio e sull’esistenza di un’unica descrizione del mondo. In terzo luogo si approfondisce il cambiamento radicale a favore di un realismo interno centrato su una nozione epistemica della verità intesa come asseribilità garantita e accettabilità razionale idealizzata. Infine si considera lo sbocco verso un realismo naturale mediato dalla percezione e influenzato dal pragmatismo con una ripresa della nozione non epistemica di verità. Seguendo Dell’Utri (2020) si mostrerà come in tutta la riflessione di Putnam permanga saldo l’intreccio tra realismo scientifico e realismo nel senso comune e anche un realismo interno in cui trova spazio la relatività e l’evoluzione concettuale degli approcci al mondo tipiche della conoscenza umana.
ABSTRACT. The paper outlines the evolution of the Putnam’ theory about realism showing a variety of possible account of this issue. Firstly is deepened the phase of scientific realism with the strong defence of the epistemological status of the science through the no miracles argument, but also with the acknowledgement of consistency of theoretical entities and of the fact that knowledge is not reducible to the scientific domain. Secondly we show the transition to metaphysical realism based on the God’s Eye perspective and the existence of a unique description of the world. Thirdly we deepen the shift to internal realism based o an epistemic notion of truth interpreted as warrented assertibility and idealized rational acceptibility. At the end we consider the exit to a natural realism based on the mediation of perception, influenced by pragmatism and grounded on a reclaim of a sort of not epistemic notion of truth. Following Dell’Utri (2020) we show as in all Putnam’s thought persists a strong intertwining between scientific realism and common-sense realism in addition to an internal perspective in which are legitimated the conceptual relativity proper of the evolution of human knowledge.
