XÈNOI: ALLA RICERCA DELLA NOSTRA IDENTITÀ
ABSTRACT. Attraverso una serie di passi tratti da opere classiche quali l’Odissea o scritti platonici, si illustra come l’ospitalità allo straniero venisse ritenuta molto più di un imperativo etico, un fatto sacro. Ciò venne sancito in vario modo nelle numerose costituzioni delle poleis greche che palesavano, tuttavia, pure la tendenza opposta di chiusura rispetto all’integrazione dello straniero. Guardando alle nostre radici magnogreche, siamo tutti ‘stranieri’: stranieri – non Ateniesi né peloponnesiaci – erano i primi filosofi, stranieri erano coloro che hanno contribuito alla fondazione di quella che chiamiamo civiltà occidentale. La filosofia contemporanea e l’epistemologia costruttivista radicale, sottolineando l’importanza del riconoscimento dell’altro per la costruzione della nostra identità, offrono un decisivo contributo teorico in favore dell’ospitalità e della difficile, ma possibile, integrazione.
ABSTRACT. Through a series of quotes taken from classical works such as the Odyssey or Platonic writings, it is illustrated how hospitality to the foreigner was considered much more than an ethical imperative, it was a sacred action. This is variously confirmed in the several constitutions of the Greek poleis also revealing, however, the opposite tendency of narrow-mindedness towards the integration of the foreigner. Looking at our Magna Graecia roots, we are all “foreigners”: foreigners – not Athenians or Peloponnesians – were the first philosophers, foreigners were all the ones who contributed to the foundation of what we call Western civilization. Contemporary philosophy and radical constructivist epistemology, while emphasizing the importance of the recognition of the other to build our own identity, offer a decisive theoretical contribution in favour of hospitality and the difficult, but possible, integration.
